Tthe most important component of your home theater is the home theater projector, which will account for about 25% of your budget in many cases. There are basically two types of home theater projectors: LCD, and DLP. The LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display projector works by passing a powerful light source through a transparent LCD chip made up of individual pixels which then displays the moving video image through the lens to the screen. A DLP, or digital light processing projector, also displays the image on a chip in which every pixel is a reflective mirror. Each of these "micro-mirrors" then tilt very rapidly as the image changes.

Advantages of the DLP projector include excellent color accuracy, compactness, low power consumption, and high contrast and brightness. Although typically not as bright as LCD types, DLP projectors are usually much smoother looking with softer edges. DLP projectors are by far the most popular and most cost-effective choice for a home theater. All of our theater packages include full 1080p resolution projectors. The projector screen an another important element in any theater. The format, size, gain, style, material, and operation all have to be considered. Most new HDTV movies are all in the 16:9 format, but there are many great movies that are filmed in Cinemascope, such as Lord of the Rings and King Arthur. When viewing these movies on a16:9 screen, there will be black bars on the top and bottom.

All reflective surfaces, including projection screens have a “gain.” Gain is a measurement of the reflectivity of a surface. A gain of 1.0 indicates that the same light that is projected toward the screen will be reflected back to the audience. If a screen has a higher gain, such as 1.5, more light is reflected back than the light being projected, and if the gain is less, such as 0.8, only 80% of the light will be reflected back.

Home Theaters today must be able to accomodate every type of component input imaginable, so the Home Theater Receiver is another important peice. You'll definitely want a BluRay DVD player.
