The Location: This home theater was designed and installed in The Shores subdivision in Rockwall, Texas.
The Challenge: The customers wanted to upgrade their upstairs media room which had a 50" projection TV, to a full 7.1 home theater system with an HD 1080p HDMI theater projector and theater screen. They also wanted to upgrade their audio to a 7.1 surround sound speaker system, but wanted to utilize their existing 5.1 Klipsch on-wall speakers.
Their ultimate goal was to provide a cozy and comfortable place for them, their kids, and their kids friends to sit, relax, and watch TV, watch a movie, or some football on a big screen.
Our Solution: Since this upstairs media room was already wired with 5.1 surround sound, we were able to utilize some of those speaker placements and then add additional speaker drops. We wired (3) three new front channel speaker locations just under where the screen would go, using 16-gauge / 2-conductor speaker cable, as well as a 30ft HDMI cable to the projector, and (2) additional electrical outlets. Since the TV cabinet was going away, we also re-wired all the cable terminations from the front of the room to the side wall.
The front wall of the room backed up to the attic space over the garage, but because there wasn't any access to that space a few minor sheetrock cuts had to be made. We also created a crawl space access panel in the ceiling of the garage to be able to access that attic area. Next, we repaired the sheetrock and re-textured the walls so the room could be painted.
The Equipment: For video, we installed a premium Chief in-ceiling projector mount and an 18" drop pole, as well as a Mitsubishi 1080p high-definition DLP front projector. We also installed a 103" home theater screen from Vutec which has a nice black velvet border.
For home theater sound, we installed (3) three Proficient 100w in-wall LCR speakers for the left, right, and center channels, horizontally just below the theater screen. To complete the 7.1 surround sound, we also re-installed their Klipsch on-wall speakers, and a Klipsch powered subwoofer.
The speakers are powered by a Pioneer 7.1 Home Theater Receiver, with 120w per channel, Apple's airplay, wireless and bluetooth capabilities, 3D ready technology and true HD upconversion. For the components we installed a Sony BluRay DVD player, and an AT&T U-Verse cable receiver.
We also installed and programmed a Universal color 1-touch remote control.
