Trader's Village - Grand Prairie, TX

The System Design

The Facility: Trader's Village opened in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1973, and has been the place to shop and trade for millions of people. Their Midway is home to family friendly fun, from thrill rides to classic carousel rides.

The Challenge: The only thing missing at the Trader's Village Midway was an outdoor audio system. This audio system needed to be robust, and the outdoor speakers needed to be loud enough to be heard over the rides themselves, as well as the crowds, cheering, talking, and screaming with joy.

The other critical component was that the equipment needed to be located inside one of their outdoor ticket booths.

Our Solution: We decided to design this outdoor audio system using 70v commercial audio equipment from Bogen Audio. We started with a 70v mono amplifier with 600w of continuous power, a built-in 2x1 mixer, automatic clip limiters, low distortion, and a high slew rate. With the equipment needing to be installed in the ticket booth, this amplifier requires little maintenance and cleaning as internal electronic components are located outside the forced air-stream flow.

For the outdoor speakers, we installed eight of Bogen's NEAR-Series: high-output, long-throw loudspeakers. These all-weather outdoor speakers contain two 6-1/2" woofers plus a 1" loaded high-frequency driver which offer a powerful, more focused sound for use in larger public spaces with higher ambient sound levels.

For their music source, we installed a SiriusXM Business Satellite Radio Music System. This gave them the ability to play 100% commercial-free content, with no long-term contract, and not worry with the hassles of paying music royalties, since the royalty fees are included in the monthly programming.
